Things to look for in scanning software:

  - Supports scanning directly to [[raw]] files as either [[TIFF]] or ''.DNG'' format.
  - Supports [[48-bit color]]

[[VueScan Professional]] and [[https://www.silverfast.com/scanner-software/en.html|Silverfast]](([[https://www.silverfast.com/scanner-software/en.html]])) support these features.

[[https://scanspeeder.com/|ScanSpeeder]](([[https://scanspeeder.com/]])) is tempting because it supports scanning multiple photos at once (as does [[https://www.hamrick.com/support/how-to-guides/how-to-scan-multiple-photos-on-a-flatbed.html|VueScan with "Multicrop" turned on]](([[https://www.hamrick.com/support/how-to-guides/how-to-scan-multiple-photos-on-a-flatbed.html]])) and [[https://www.silverfast.com/highlights/batch/en.html|Silverfast Batch Scanning]](([[https://www.silverfast.com/highlights/batch/en.html]]))), but it does not support 24-bit color and therefore is not recommended for archival scans.
