The [[https://www.backblaze.com/blog/the-3-2-1-backup-strategy/|3-2-1 backup strategy]] says you should have three **(3) copies** of each file, two (2) of which are onsite but on **different storage mediums** or hard drives, and (1) copy stored **offsite in case of malware, theft, or disaster**.

Your **first copy** (#1) should be on a **hard drive or NAS device** (Network Attached Storage) where it is **convenient** for you.

Your **second copy** (#2) can be on a **USB drive**, or burned to **DVD or Blu-Ray**.

Your **third copy** (#3) can be on a **cloud drive**, or a **second USB drive or another DVD or Blu-Ray** stored **away from home**, perhaps work or a trusted friend's or family member's house.
